This morning started with watching trains out the window of Timber Lodge Room 201.
We picked up Calvin so he could ride his dirt bike back home.
Jon put the new portable restroom on a level footing. Classy.
Most of the day was spent figuring out if we could drill the big holes we needed in our foundation.
This is a big drill, but not the biggest one we'll need.
Here, Eliot's driving a Titen screw anchor into the concrete with an air wrench.
We didn't exactly succeed
We didn't entirely succeed at the drill business. At one point, we ran into rebar, and couldn't get through it. Eventually Eliot realized that the particular bit wasn't rebar rated; he swapped it out for a concrete-with-rebar bit, and was able to grind past it. Our big bits are also rebar rated, but we didn't get to test them until we had returned the SDS-Max drill to the rental shop.
Right now we have a plan for two of the three holes. For the very biggest hole, there's rebar for the last 1/2", and we're not sure how to conquer it. Looking forward to some conversations tomorrow with the engineer and general contractor advisor.
Jon took an angle grinder gleefully to all the cast-in-place hurricane ties that were, according to our engineer, not even close to strong enough for the job. Nice to have those out of the way.
The sky got beautifully surly in the evening.
Siggy found a few lambs' ears, which he thought mom would be excited about.
Dinner on the way home, past Siggy's bedtime. Mine too.
I'm sure you'll win the war! Looks like quite a challenge, tho. Bet you're all beat !
